Melbourne Cameraman: Alienware Event
Computing giant Alienware needed a Melbourne cameraman to cover their exhibition at PAX Australia, held for the first time in Australia at Flemington Racecourse.
Alienware create top of the line gaming computer hardware and put together an exciting and impressive exhibition for their audience at PAX.
In order to capture the excitement and energy in such a crowded space, we chose to shoot on DSLR cameras for this event. They are small and mobile, but still capture great quality images in the hands of our experienced cameraman. Low light can sometimes be an issue for video production shoots such as these, but our Canon DSLR cameras have an excellent low-light range.
Our cameraman used a variety of Canon L-Series lenses to capture great wide, establishing shots and intricate close-ups. For those of you who are technically minded, this included the Canon 24-105mm 4.0, the Canon 70-200mm 2.8 and the 50mm 1.4.
Being in such a busy environment, we needed to use light gear. Our Manfrotto 682b self-standing monopod was great for this. We could move around the exhibition floor capturing perfect static shots that were no different from traditional tripod shots.
To capture the dynamic feel of the event and Alienware’s products, we used a slider and our Glidecam HD-4000. Our cameraman was able to grab some great walk-throughs of the Flemington location in Melbourne. For more subtle movements, our slider was perfect for capturing wider shots with just a hit of movement.
